Eat shawarma like a king
Make your own shawarma for the royal weekend. Delicious with garlic sauce, and do you want to make it yourself? You can! The secret to a good garlic sauce is to use plenty of full-fat yoghurt.
4 servings
45 minutes Ingredients: 650 g chicken thighs (can be replaced with finely chopped seitan and mushrooms for a vegetarian option)
1 large onion, sliced into rings
8 pita breads
1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
Spice mix
2 teaspoons ground cumin
Half a teaspoon turmeric
1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
0.5 teaspoon black pepper
0.5 teaspoon chili powder
0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
1.5 teaspoons ground coriander
1.5 teaspoons ground ginger
1.5 teaspoons salt
1.5 teaspoons sweet paprika
2 tablespoons sunflower oil
Salad
200 g iceberg lettuce
1 bell pepper
Half a cucumber
200 g of your favourite crunchy vegetable
Garlic sauce 100 g mayonnaise 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped 100 ml full-fat yoghurt 1 tablespoon chives, finely chopped, or other herbs you like.
Method
1. Mix the spice mix and marinate the chicken, preferably overnight, or for a few hours otherwise.
2. Sauté the marinated chicken in the wok. Add the onion and garlic until translucent and let simmer gently for 10 minutes. Add a little water if necessary.
3. Cut the vegetables into fine strips and mix them together.
4. Combine all the ingredients for the garlic sauce and stir well. Season with a little salt and pepper.
5. Before the chicken is ready, bake the pita breads in the oven, or warm them in your toaster or sandwich maker. Enjoy your meal!
