Daan, who has been a delivery person for a while, is now a shift master, but he still occasionally goes out on the bike in the evenings.
How did you end up at MarleenKookt?
Through a friend I was in class with at secondary school. After I got my VWO diploma, I decided to take a gap year during which I went travelling. When I returned, I was out of money and actively looking for work. Through her, I got in touch with MarleenKookt. Delivering on the cargo bike seemed like fun!
What is it like to be a delivery person?
I have always enjoyed delivering. My first week was quite challenging. I still remember the very first time I had to cycle; I wasn't very familiar with Amsterdam and had to constantly check the navigation on my phone. The following days got better and better, and I started to enjoy it more and more.
What are the main tasks of a delivery person?
Besides ensuring that you deliver the meals on time, you are also the business card of MarleenKookt. It's important that you know what's on the menu and that you deliver the meals with a smile on your face!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The best thing about this job is that you get to be outside, cycle through the city, meet lots of people, and also stay active.
How do you combine it with your studies?
Delivering is very easy to combine with studying. You start between half past 3 and half past 5 and are often finished around half past 9. I tried to arrange my work schedule so that I had classes until 3 o'clock, allowing me to go straight to work afterwards. This way, I used my time as efficiently as possible and had a whole evening left after work to do other things.
What is your favourite dish?
Another advantage of working at MarleenKookt is that you always get a meal for after your shift. After almost 3 years, I have a few favourite meals. For starters, gazpacho, and for main courses, all the Korean dishes, the gratin pasta, the Sukiyaki Beef, and the Limburg's sour meat. I think the apple pie from Kent is the best dessert!
